National Body of Catholic Students Admits Peter Varsity, Honours Umezinwa

PETER University’s chapter of the Nigerian Federation of Catholic Students (NFCS) has been inaugurated. The chapter was set up during a four-day convention of the Onitsha Province of the body, held at Peter University, Achina/Onneh.

At the Annual Convention of Onitsha Province of NFCS which ended on Sunday (September 1, 2024) with a Holy mass, the body honoured the Vice Chancellor (VC) of Peter University,, Prof. Chukwuemenam E. Umezinwa with NFCS’ outstanding status award.

Peter University’s chapter was inaugurated as their first set of executive members were formally ushered into office. The V.C, Very Rev. Fr. Prof. Umezinwa blessed the university’s new executive officers, urging them to lead by example and work with the understanding that they are bound to make their society better with their leadership. He assured them of his full support anytime needed.

The national body gave their vote of thanks to the VC for his support during the convention and also expressed their appreciation to Peter University’s director of Students Affairs, Rev. Fr. John Mark Okafor among others.

The Onitsha provincial convention of NFCS began on Thursday, 29th August and ended on Sunday, 1st of September.


It featured several highpoints, comprising presentations and interactions on issues raised by various resource persons which included past executive members of NFCS.


Among speakers were Rev. Fr. George Adimike who spoke on self discipline as a soft skill, while Rev. Fr Francis Ude spoke on inter switch between faith and skills. A nun, Rev. Sr. Paula Ude made a presentation on financial management and savings and Rev. Fr. Charles Mmaduekwe spoke on building IT skills and the pros and cons of the new AI technology among other speakers.

Among others who received awards aside the VC and Rev. Fr. Okafor were the chaplain of NFCS in Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka (UNIZIK) Rev. Fr Remigius Ezeokonkwo, and some past executive officers of NFCS.

The convention which also featured sports and pageantry contests ended on Sunday, September 1, morning with a holy mass, celebrated at the Chapel of Peter University.

Peter University’s chapter of NFCS named St. Edward’s Chapter was inaugurated during the mass celebrated by Rev. Fr. Umezinwa.
