The Managing Director of the Anambra State Civic and Social Reformation Office (ANCISRO) and his team today paid a strategic visit to the Head of the Department of Psychology at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, Prof. Chidozie E. Nwafor, to discuss collaborative efforts aimed at addressing the rising prevalence of cultism and drug abuse among young people.

During the high-level engagement, both parties conducted an in-depth analysis of the root causes of these societal vices, identifying factors such as peer pressure, socioeconomic hardship, lack of proper mentorship, and the psychological vulnerabilities that drive young individuals toward destructive lifestyles.

They further examined the far-reaching consequences of cultism and substance abuse, which include academic decline, increased crime rates, deteriorating mental health, and the overall breakdown of social structures. The deliberations also explored the role of family, educational institutions, and government policies in either exacerbating or mitigating these issues.

The meeting culminated in the development of a comprehensive blueprint outlining preventive and intervention strategies, including structured rehabilitation programs, psychological counseling, community engagement initiatives, and targeted awareness campaigns.

Both ANCISRO and the university’s Psychology Department expressed strong optimism about the collaboration, emphasizing their commitment to implementing sustainable solutions that will foster positive behavioral change among youths and contribute to a safer, more progressive society.
