Justice Development and Peace Caritas Commission [JDPC], Awka Diocese, receny held her one week annual event in different parishes.

Delivering his lecture during the event at St Thomas Aquinas  Catholic Church, GRA, Awka, on the topic,  ‘Promoting Entrepreneurial Literacy – The Role of Catechesis and Homilies and Microfinancing and Small Business Development-The Place of the Church’, Sir Chuka Nnabuife stated that an entrepreneur must be somebody who sees a need in the society, takes risk with his money and must do the investment with interest.

He explained that an enterprise must be satisfactory to the society and the person who has an enterprise must make sure that it is a growing concern.

He said; ‘’It must be continuous. The society needs the business to continue. Entrepreneurship is the effort to turn the business to continuity. Make the business not only for gain but also to survive beyond you.’’

Nnabuife pointed out that the person must have business plans, morals, among others.

‘’ You must consider two things – intergrity and credibility. People must trust you. You must have a reputation,” he said.

He therefore called on the church to use examples of ‘ezi afa ka ego’;  saying: ‘’As long as you do good, if you don’t eat today, you will eat tomorrow. God saves those who believe in him. It may not bring you gold in the moment. The church should be giving messages in homilies, catechesis, among others.’’

He further advised that programs and seminars should always be organized in the church, pointing out that business is not all about hustle but  God’s grace.

He narrated how Peter [in the Bible] with his group stayed all night without catching fish, until Christ asked them to cast their net into the water.

The Chairman/ Cordinator, JDPC, St Thomas Aquinas Parish, Awka, Mr Samuel Chinedu Onyimonyi, in his speech presentation explained that JDPC is a non-governmental organization, established by the Catholic Church to fight for the right of all faithful and downtrodden, including caring for the poor and the needy.
