Peter University Holds Safety Awareness Forum

On Wednesday, July 10, 2024, Peter University held a fire safety training session for staff and students. The event aimed to equip participants with the knowledge and skills to respond effectively in case of a fire emergency.

The training session featured presentations, practical demonstrations, and exercises to familiarize participants with fire safety facilities, gadgets, and equipment. The speaker, Onyekwere J. Ezembaji, emphasised the importance of quick response and planning for emergencies. In his paper entitled, ‘Fire Safety Alertness’ he explained the different types of fires, ranging from Class A to Class F, and demonstrated how to use various fire-fighting equipment.

The university installed fire extinguishers and other safety gadgets across the campus and plans to make the training a regular event. The authorities praised the event, stating that it is crucial to ensure the safety of staff and students.

The training session included tips on what to do during a fire outbreak, such as raising an alarm, operating alarm systems, and evacuating the premises. The speaker emphasized the importance of time in responding to fire emergencies, stating that “time is the critical element when an emergency is reported.”
