Anambra Govt, NASME Certify Master Trainers for ‘One Youth Two Skills Solution

IN CONTINUATION of Anambra State government’s push to eradicate unemployment by arming youths with productive skills through her ‘One Youth Two Skills Solution’ (1Y2SS) program the Ministry of Youth Development has progressed in the second phase of the project with the training of master trainers who will groom expected 10,000 trainees.

A two-day capacity-building orientation session held by the ministry in collaboration with Nigerian Association of Small and Medium Enterprises (NASME) at the IDK Learning Centre, Awka trained the trainers with the goal of identifying those of them that are fit and apt.

The training exercise was began on Thursday (July 19) with an event hosted by the Commissioner for Youth Development, Patrick Agha Mba.
Speaking on the opening day, Mr. Agha Mba informed that the second phase of 1Y2SS as approved by Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo, has been upscaled in all facets, from number trainees to quality of master trainers, number of training centers, skill sets and learning fields available to Anambra youths.

Therefore, in order to achieve the Governor’s intention to ensure the advancement of the skills of the youths, Ministry of Youth Development is determined to make participants in the second phase of 1Y2SS reap immensely.

The Commissioner disclosed that over 8000 applications were received from business owners, comprising vocational training institutes, tertiary schools and other skills centers for participation in the program as master trainers. Applications came from all the 21 local government areas (LGAs) and all 179 communities in the state.

According to Mr. Agha Mba, the capacity training of master trainers which is a new development in the 1Y2SS, aspires to have 2000 accredited centres and certified trainers.

He praised the governor for his keenness for the advancement of Anambra youths and his enthusiasm for their empowerment, adding that the Governor has approved funds for the second phase of 1Y2SS.

Special Adviser to the Governor of Youth Empowerment, Dr. Nelson Omenugha; also expressed his appreciation for the government’s high interest in the well-being of youths.

Similarly, the Deputy Chief of Staff and Chief Protocol to the Governor, Mr. Chinedu Nwoye and the permanent secretary of the ministry, Dr. Martin Agbili poured their encomium on the governor for his magnanimity and candour for 1Y2SS.

In a lecture, presented during the opening occasion on basic techniques and skill sets required for running small and medium scale businesses as well as in training trainees, Chairman of Anambra State chapter of NASME, Chinemerem Oguegbe, urged the master trainers to note how onerous the tasks ahead them are and devote sufficient time to them.

He noted that keen monitoring and paying attention to maintenance of standards are very important in the new phase of 1Y2SS.

On the second day of the capacity training, management scholar, Uchechukwu Solomon Eze of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka gave extensive lectures to the master trainers.

Dr Ezeh spoke on four major topics namely: ‘Documentation and Record Keeping’ and ‘Ensuring Workplace Safety’ through which he exposed the young owners of businesses to such issues as Building Reputation and Branding’.

He also led the master trainers through vital issues on ‘Business Registration’; ‘Leveraging Technologies in Training,’ ‘Ensuring Legal Requirements in Running Business,’ through which he highlighted such issues as the odd and enabled sides business names.

There were other speakers in the exercise that ended with an examination test through which those who qualified for the 1Y2SS master trainer certificates were selected.
