Anambra SUBEB Deploys Space Technology, GIS for Electronic Quality Assurance Monitoring

As part of its vision to ensure improved service delivery, the Anambra State Universal Basic Education Board, ASUBEB has commenced the implementation of a Memorandum of Understanding it entered into with Universal Basic Education Commission, UBEC and the National Space Research and Development Agency, NASRDA, on Electronic Quality Assurance Evaluation.
A pointer to this was a two-day training of Quality Assurance Officers of ASUBEB Headquarters and 21 Local Government Education Authorities over the weekend, at the Utility hall, ASUBEB Headquarters, Awka.
The training which is a component of the MoU, is focused on capacity
building for the ASUBEB staff with the development of skills and capacity in the application of space technology and GIS for project quality assurance as well as geospatial intelligence.
Declaring the training workshop open, the Executive Chairman of ASUBEB, Dr. Vera Nkiru Nwadinobi noted that education is the basic factor and foundation of getting to a livable and prosperous Homeland that has been envisaged by Governor Chukwuma Soludo, adding that without proper monitoring and evaluation, there will be no quality education.
The ASUBEB boss pointed out that the Board has already keyed into the digitalization policy of the governor, which made the board conduct the first-ever computer-based Test senior staff promotion examination.
According to her, the training would not have been possible without the payment of the Universal Education Board, three-year counterpart funding (2019, 2020, and 2021) by Governor Soludo, which enabled the implementation of the MoU signed by NARSDA, UBEC, and 36 State SUBEBs and FCT for Electronic Quality Assurance Evaluation in all the public Schools for effective service delivery.
In his remarks, the Director General and Chief Executive Officer of NASRDA, Dr. Matthew Adepoju, represented by Mr. Elvis Nsofor, said the electronic quality assurance (e-Quality Assurance) is fast, verifiable,
accurate and available on digital devices that simplify data collection.
“The new system allows automatic processing of information and
minimizes possibilities of human errors. In addition, it makes available the instruments, data collected in the field, processed data, and reports from anywhere in the world.
“Finally, it generates a summary report immediately.
“I would like to assure you of NASRDA’s total commitment to the successful implementation of all agreed terms of reference in our MOU.
“This shall be jointly implemented in a professional and timely manner.
“We are determined to make it a huge success because of the important role quality education plays in nation-building,” he said.
On her part, the Director, Quality Assurance of the ASUBEB, Lady Stella Ezepue noted that it is the responsibility of Quality Assurance Department, to ensure high-quality basic education and to prescribe, monitor, evaluate, and maintain minimum standards, especially in the area of teaching and learning in the state’s basic education sector.
She commended the ASUBEB leadership for their efforts in driving the MoU and the partners for their dedication to the partnership.
Other persons at the training included NARSDA Team members, Mr. Samaila Maiwadda, and Mr. Joseph Bala, including the permanent Board member 1, Hon. Mrs Ifeyinwa Anatune, Permanent Board Member 3, Lady Chinyere Azodo, Director Social Mobilisation Department, Mrs Amaka Ikedimma and the UBEC State Coordinator, Anambra State Office, Mr Kingsley Nlewedim among others.
