Sanusi Reinstated as Emir of Kano

Four years after banishment from his kingdom and throne as Emir of Kano the erstwhile Central Bank of Nigeria, Governor and dethroned emir Sanusi Lamido Sanusi was surprising reinstated yesterday.

Muhammadu Sanusi II (Sanusi Lamido Sanusi) deposed as the Emir of Kano in 2019, was returned to the throne by Gov. Abba Yusuf of Kano State.

Gov. Yusuf announced the decision on Thursday after signing the Kano State Emirate Council (Repeal) Bill 2024 into law.

“With the full support of the kingmakers, I have approved the reappointment of Malam Sanusi Lamido,” he said.

The new law replaces the Kano State Emirates Council Law, 2019, and dissolves the emirate councils created by former governor Abdullahi Ganduje who dethroned and banished Sanusi out of Kano.

The former governor, Ganduje (current national chairman of All Progressives Congress, APC) went farther to split the Kano Emirate into five emirates, all of which his successors Gov. Yusuf has abolished.

The law, reinstating Sanusi who was the 14th Emir of Kano until his removal has been passed by the Kano State House of Assembly. The law removes Emir Aminu Ado Bayero, the 15th Emir of Kano and directs him to vacate the throne in 48 hours. It equally directs all the five new emirs installed by Ganduje’s 2019 law, the Emir of Bichi Nasir Ado Bayero, Emir of Rano Kabiru Muhammad Inuwa, Emir of Karaye Ibrahim Abubakar II and Emir of Gaya Aliyu Ibrahim Abdulkadir. to vacate the initially inexistent thrones.

Under the new Kano Emirate Repeal law 2024, Kano State is now under one emirate.

Gov. Yusuf, explains that the reinstatement of Lamido Sanusi, was his fulfilment of a campaign promise and a reflection of the wish of the people of Kano. Employs 3,115 New Teachers

Anambra State government is employing over three thousand more teachers. The new employees will teach in her basic schools.

Already, the state’s executive has approved the appointments. Anambra State’s Commissioner for Information, Paul Nwosu confirmed this in a press release he issued on Monday, May 20.

In the release entitled, ‘ANSEC Approves the Recruitment of 3,115 Teachers’ the Commissioner explains thusly: “Anambra State Executive Council (ANSEC) has approved the recruitment of 3,115 teachers.

“The breakdown of the recruitment are: 1,115 teachers for primary schools and 2,000 teachers for secondary schools.”

This follows an earlier mass employment of teachers by the government of Gov. Chukwuma Charles Soludo. In the earlier batch, 5000 teachers were employed.

Nwosu explains thusly: “This second round of recruitment has been done mainly to address teachers shortages in rural and hard-to-get areas such as Anambra West, Ayamelum, Anambra East  Ihiala, Ekwusigo, Nnewi South, Ogbaru and Awka North.

“The recruitment which was based on CTB exam like the first exercise is purely on merit.

“This is the second time Anambra State Government under Governor Charles Chukwuma Soludo CFR is employing large numbers of school teachers at a go in less than two years.”
